How Dray tells you a session finished, needs permission or asked a question — a macOS banner, an in-app card, or nothing — plus the ready-to-merge card, ⌘G, the sidebar marks and the dock badge.

Dray tells you when a session hands work back to you. It picks one way to tell you, based on where you are, so you never get the same news twice.

What Dray tells you about

  • Done — a session’s turn ended.
  • Needs permission — a session wants your approval before it runs a tool.
  • Needs an answer — a session asked you a question.
  • Ready to merge — a session’s pull request has turned ready.

Which way you hear

For the first three, the channel depends on where you are:

You are You get
In another app A macOS banner, with the session’s title. Clicking it brings Dray forward on that session.
In Dray, looking at something else A card in the top-left corner of the window, and a sound.
In Dray, looking at that session Nothing. The transcript already shows it.

Ready to merge works differently. It is always a card, never a banner, even when you are looking at the session — the panel line changing quietly is easy to miss. It appears when a PR changes to ready, not for one that was already ready when Dray first saw it.

Sessions filed in another space stay silent until you switch to that space. They keep running.

Cards

Each card names what is wanted and offers a button:

Card Button Goes to Stays for
Done View The session 10 seconds
Needs permission, Needs an answer Answer The session, where the card to answer is 15 seconds
Ready to merge Review The session with its PR tab open 10 seconds
Delete worktree? Delete or Skip Delete removes the worktree of a session you just settled. Skip keeps it. 15 seconds

The bar along the bottom of a card is its timer. Hover a card to pause it.

Keyboard

  • ⌘G takes the top card — the oldest one, next to expire. Press it again for the next. On a Delete worktree? card it skips; it never deletes.
  • ⌘⇧D deletes the worktree from a Delete worktree? card.

The keys work only while a card is showing. Hover the top card’s button to see its key.

A card going away does not mean the work is done. A session still waiting on you keeps its yellow mark in the sidebar until you answer.

Sounds

  • An in-app card plays a short sound.
  • A banner for a finished task plays the macOS default sound. A banner asking for permission or an answer plays Ping.
  • Settling a session plays a short celebration.

There is no setting to turn these off.

Each sidebar row carries a mark on its left edge:

  • Green — the turn is over and you haven’t looked yet. Opening the row clears it.
  • Yellow — the session is waiting on you. Only answering clears it.

Yellow wins when both apply. The Dray icon in the Dock shows a count of sessions with either mark, across every space, and clears itself at zero.

Allow notifications in macOS

macOS asks whether Dray may send notifications the first time it posts a banner. Choose Allow. If you declined, turn it back on in System Settings → Notifications → Dray. Cards, sounds, marks and the badge inside Dray work either way.

Limits

  • A banner disappears after a minute if you don’t click it.
  • A background subagent that reports back after its turn can raise a second Done for the same session.
  • Shortcuts here can be changed in Settings → Shortcuts.
